Richard Lopez
Richard Lopez, a member of the Kapalua Realty team since 2004, began his real estate career in 1982 at the Princeville Resort on Kauai. Here he marketed a new condominium development for Bruce Stark, one of Hawaii’s premier modernist developers. In 1984 Richard was recruited by Aaron Chaney, founder of Chaney, Brooks & Company, to be the Branch Manager and Broker-in-Charge for the Kauai Branch of the company. During the ten years Richard was with Chaney, Brooks he was involved in association property management, commercial sales and leasing, general real estate sales and was sales manager for Obayashi Hawaii and Blackfied Hawaii corporations. While at Chaney, Brooks Richard managed three residential developments for the company including Kauhale Park in the Princeville resort, Waialeale Estates in Kapaa and Puanani Terrace in Lihue. Prior to joining Kapalua Realty Richard was a member of Prudential’s Fine Homes Division on Maui where membership in the Fine Homes Division is earned through the marketing and successful sale of exclusive properties.
Richard, a big believer in education, received a degree in Administration of Justice in 1972. In 1984 he earned his Broker’s license and in 1990 received the CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager) designation. This designation is earned through a series of extensive courses usually requiring several years to complete. The CRB designation is the highest credential awarded to brokers and managers in the residential field, and recognizes professional accomplishments in education and experience.
While at Chaney, Brooks the company became affiliated with ERA and during that period Richard earned the designation of CIBM (Certified Investment Brokerage Manager). In 1988 Richard returned to college and earned a second degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii. In 2004 Richard attended courses to earn the designation of RRS (Recreation and Resort Specialist).
Throughout his career in real estate Richard has served in numerous capacities with the Board of Realtors. He served with the Finance Committee, Professional Standards, Director and President of the Kauai Board of Realtors and President of the Kauai Business Council in 1987 and 1988 respectively.
Richard believes in serving the community and has been involved in fundraising for the Cancer Society, Hale Opio Hawaii, Inc., a non profit agency benefiting troubled teens. He assisted in building homes for Habit for Humanity, and most recently assisted fund raising efforts for The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society on behalf of his nephew who was stricken with Leukemia. |
